When applied directly to rusted iron or steel, Rust Remover will convert iron oxide into black ferric phosphate. After the rust has been treated and converted to ferric phoshate, it can be scrubbed off to expose the fresh, clean metal surface underneath. The black ferric phosphate can also be left to provide moderate corrosion esistance. Rust Remover also contains an agent to prevent the acid attacking uncorroded metal making it easier and safer to use.
